Historical Background
In German mythology (specifically from Austria & Bavaria), Pilwiz (sometimes called Bilwis) is a nature spirit with the ability to cure illnesses. After Christianity became the dominant religion, Pilwiz was turned into a malevolent spirit armed with a sickle.
