Jambiya (Arabic script جمبية or جنبية) is the Arabic term for dagger, but it is generally used to describe a specific type of dagger with a short curved blade that is worn on a belt. Although the jambiya is of Arab origin, it is mostly associated with people of Yemeni descent. Men typically above the age of 14 wear it as an accessory to their clothing. It is said that a Yemeni man is incomplete without his jambiya. The most significant part of a jambiya is its hilt and the price is in most cases determined by the hilt. The most common material for a jambiya hilt is various types of horn; this, interestingly enough, holds true for both the real world and [[Vana'diel]]. |
