Historical Background
In Norse mythology, Freya was said to cry tears of pure gold. Amber is also said to be “Freya’s Tears” (it would occasionally wash up on Scandinavian beaches; amber is lighter than the density of water and thus floats). Note that this item is used to make Brisingamen, a necklace associated with the goddess Freya.
