Historical Background
In Greek mythology, the Aor Chryseion (Golden Sword) was used by Perseus to cut off Medusa's head. In practical use, gold is not a good metal to forge a weapon from because while gold is very resistant to corrosion and rust, it is very soft and malleable. Thus, gold tends to be used more for ornamental purposes than practical purposes.
